Like a depressed moth drawn to a wild flame, Chris hoped that flame would brighten his life, not burn him alive.

Chris Sinclair fades into a gray world after losing his mother to cancer. When forced to attend a concert, as a last attempt to coax him out of his shell, he discovers that life might not be as bleak as he first thought.

Dante Heron holds the audience between the tips of his fingers and the delicate bow, playing the violin as if every heart is his to command. However, something darker brews behind the façade, and Chris is determined to solve the enigma.

When Chris is offered the job of traveling around Europe with the famous violinist, he surprises himself by accepting. With no idea of what awaits him, he’s thrown into a world where emotions rule and rules are bent.

They’re a perfectly dysfunctional match, but then there's always calm at the heart of the storm.

I liked this book very much. I have a few issues with it, but the things I liked about it surpassed majorly the one that I didn’t. I also loved the cover, it was beautiful.

The plot was very good. I liked seen how Chris manage to adapt to whatever needs Dante had. I also love the support system he had. It wasn’t hard to imagine him as a great person considering how much the people who liked him were willing to sacrifice in terms to make things better for him. Lara was a nice example of that and, even though sometimes she made me so mad, and it was a little hard for me to like her. The pace was a little slow, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

What a liked the most about the book was Dante, he was a captivating character, so intriguing. We don’t get to see his point of view, which I think, add to the mystery. I would love to know so much more about him, but I think the book was better because he remain in the dark. There wasn’t a thing about him I didn’t like. It was very hard to understand him, which keep me guessing all the time.

Chris was ok, but I didn’t liked him nearly as much as Dante. I don’t really know what I had against him but I did liked how beautiful couple he made with Dante. I seemed to me like the key to my enjoyment of the book was Dante. I struggle with it a little when he was off page. The romantic part of the story was lovely and so much alike what I seek in a book, slow and believable. I loved the sweet moments they share, although they were too few.

A thing I dislike was Adam’s presence. I didn’t feel it was relevant and it bother me a bit. He was a sweet character and I would love to know him, but his presence here seemed a bit forced.

Overall it was a nice book. It was the first book I’d read from the author but I’m sure it won’t be the last. It was lovely.

Volatile Treacherous Chemistry Volume 1 Avylinn Winter Books Reviews

I loved this book. I could relate to the characters, and they tugged at my heartstrings more than once. Very clean writing style as well.
This is the first book by this author that I have read. It will not be the last. The writing was beautiful. The story touching. The characters complex. I want more of these two MCs.
I'm not quite sure how the author of this novel kept it going for so long. Not much really happens and the work consists largely of the protagonist navel gazing and dithering over what to do. I did read it to the end, the end being quite predictable. When I read an enthralling story, I don't want it to finish. In this case, I couldn't wait.
What an emotional, heartfelt story!

I loved peeling back the layers of these two characters, and so enjoyed watching Chris trying to unravel the enigma that is Dante as well. And ohhh when Dante played? I got the feelz big time!

Wonderful )
Despite his assertion that he was mature beyond his years because his mother died, Chris was very immature, socially stunted and awkwardly uncommunicative. He’s pretty ineffective at his “job” and doesn’t seem to be able to read people or situations well (though we are told he does). Chris seems really over his head and clueless. I felt like he was 13 instead of 20. Chris needed to ask questions, to get information about Dante’s past. Instead, he kept saying Dante deserved his privacy. Dude, you can’t help him if you don’t know anything. Really? You can’t even Google him to get some insight? I didn’t like Chris much, and I got SO TIRED of his inner monologue, insecurities and jealousy. Everything was about him. “Oh, Dante is upset? It must be something I did, but I’m too afraid to talk to him about it.” It just got old. Chris rarely tells Dante what he’s really thinking or feeling and he communicates with people (Tom, Lara, Dante) in the shortest, most basic sentences possible. All thinking, no talking. And he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed. I almost gave up on this book because I couldn’t stand another minute of Chris. I just skimmed the last 40%. I don’t feel like I missed anything other than more annoying inner turmoil.

I never understood why Dante was attracted to Chris. Not in the beginning and not later on. All we know about Chris is that his mom died (which we hear over and over again), he has blond hair (I think?), and doesn’t have the basic sense to figure out what to wear in most situations. Dante and Chris are both so moody. I was frustrated with their off and on, hot and cold relationship.

I think the premise of this book started out interesting. But it got too bogged down with inner angst that could have been resolved (or at least lessened) by some actual conversations among men. Not sullen teenage emotional withdrawal.

The airport scene with the flight attendant calling security made no sense. Chris seeing Dante on a TV in a shop window (what is this, the 1950s?) was so fabricated it was laughable. Why did we suddenly get a new plot with Adam the roommate? I. Just. Don’t. Care. Ugh, such an awkward plug for another book. Why did Chris’ brother buy him a ticket for Dante’s concert for Christmas? Wouldn’t Chris get one for free?

There weren’t even any good sexytimes to make up for the boring faux drama of the rest of the book. A few kisses and then close the door.

Want to read a MUCH better "you're a jerk but I have to babysit you for work" book? Go read Almost Heaven by Ruthie Luhnow.
Winter is a wonderful story teller. Could not put this book down. Can't wait to read the next book in this series. A prodigy violinist and a sweet young man tasked to keep things from getting out of hand. They form a bond but it gets complicated as things don't always go well. A trip through Europe with several concerts is amazing but feelings get ruffled. Thankfully good things happen toward the end. Wonderful story.

sweet moment
This is New Adult gay fiction at it's best. It had me twisted up emotionally and on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how these two were going to figure it out! I also enjoyed the European settings and unique premise. Don't expect high heat in this one, it fades to black. But the kisses and need are there, and even though I prefer high heat, I couldn't put this story down. Overall, it had the emotional intensity but with enough sweetness that it helped to alleviate the angst. Highly recommended.
